Craig Price, Voice Instructor
American Bass-Baritone Craig Philip Price made his professional debut as a Bonfils-Stanton apprentice artist with Central City Opera during the 2007 season, where he was seen as the First Minister in Massenet’s Cendrillon, and the Marquis in Verdi’s La Traviata.
Since then he has appeared as a young artist with Ash Lawn Opera, where he covered Leporello in Mozart’s Don Giovanni, and also appeared in scenes with orchestra and was a featured soloist in An Evening on Broadway.
He has also performed with Kentucky Opera singing Marquis in La Traviata, covered the role of Candy in Carlisle Floyd’s Of Mice and Men, and sang the Bonze in a concert performance of Madama Butterfly.
Previous seasons saw Mr. Price join the University of Kentucky as a resident artist in their Schmidt Opera Outreach program performing Osmin in the Davies/Mozart Billy Goats Gruff, a role that he that he also sang in performances for Opera at Saratoga. He also returned to FBN Productions for performances of their brand new production of Davies’ Pinnochio.
Mr. Price was the winner of the Wagner Prize (3rd Place) at the Orpheus National Music Competition for Voice in 2012. He has also competed in the Metropolitan Opera National Council auditions, where he was awarded the Ron and Charlotte Payne Encouragement Award in the North Carolina district competition.
As an advocate for arts education, Mr. Price has performed in over 200 school performances. Also an avid supporter of the creation and performance of new American music, Mr. Price is pleased to have been active in Manhattan School of Music's American Music Productions (AMP), as well as the Page to Stage program with Opera Index and American Opera Projects, which workshops pieces in development by American composers. He also was honored to take part in celebrating the career of legendary American composer Carlisle Floyd in 2011 as a guest performer for his induction into South Carolina's State Hall of Fame.
Past performances by the Bass-Baritone include Wolfgang Bigbad in Three Little Pigs with FBN Productions, where he was recognized as the 2007 Artist of the Year. He also made his debut with the Carolina Master Chorale recently singing the Marquis in La Traviata, and he was seen in concert in Camden, SC as the bass soloist in the Mozart Requiem. Notable past performances include Richard in Seymour Barab's Fortunes Favorites and Bird in the world premiere performance of Barab's Everyone Has to be Free both with AMP. He also had the pleasure of singing the part of Christ in the John Stainer Crucifixion at the famed St. Patrick's Cathedral on Fifth Ave in New York.
He has been seen in many other roles including past appearances as Gideon March in Mark Adamo's Little Women, and Harlekin in Strauss' Ariadne auf Naxos, both with the Intermezzo Young Artist Program, as well as several appearances on the mainstage and in opera scenes with the Manhattan School of Music Opera Theater.
He also has made frequent appearances in the oratorio as a soloist in Handel's Messiah, Mozart's Requiem, Bach's Magnificat and St. John Passion.
He is a native of South Carolina where he earned a BM in Voice from Furman University as a student of Trudy Hines Fuller. He holds a MM in Voice from Manhattan School of Music, where he was a student of Neil Rosenshein.
He currently resides in Lexington, KY where he maintains a successful private voice studio.
